Often it's easy for schools to choose the familiar and most obvious choice for a school ski trip, but widen your horizons and you could be in for a real treat...
Excellent resorts, friendly and accommodating ski schools, chocolate box scenery, great weather, varied skiing, excellent resorts, fantastic cuisine, and friendly hospitality! Just a few of the reasons why you should choose Austria for your next school ski trip!
The Austrian Alps have a long and bountiful snow season. The ground snow is generally powdery well into spring. Packed powder prevails on the groomed runs, deep powder off-piste. The Austria Ski Resort Report (to the right side of the screen) gives you the latest snow conditions at the top ski resorts in Austria. For real snow assurance consider a glacier resort such as Zell-am-See - Kaprun with the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, or Schladming with the Dachstein Glacier.
It's more affordable than you may have thought
Prices are certainly equivalent to France for like-for-like resorts, and if you are able to go out of the peak times such as half term, there are some great deals to be had (around £695 for all-in school packages.) Travel by coach is the most cost-effective way to take a school group and journey times to a resort such as St Anton is around 14 hours from Calais (equivalent to the coach time to popular French resort Les Deux Alpes).
Traditional Authentic Austrian atmosphere
A sense of place and history is all around you when you visit Austria. You really can't beat the friendliness of the locals and ambiance of the architecture, culture and regional traditions. Because the ski resorts are built around villages, you have a completely different experience to the purpose built resorts that you find elsewhere. The experience of skiing Austria is unique and your students will love it.
Austrian ski schools
The quality and friendliness of the Austrian ski schools and instructors is world famous for its ski-schools and instructors. Ski lessons in English are available so there's no language barrier for your school group.
Great accommodation for school groups
Austria has a high proportion of suitable ski accommodation especially geared towards school groups. Known as 'Jugendhotels' the Austrian youth accommodation is of a high standard and not what people often associate with such accommodation. Jugendhotels often have more than one restaurant so groups can be seated together at mealtimes and have facilities such as meeting, games and disco rooms, making most of the weeks' evening entertainment activities cheap and accessible.
There's plenty for school groups to do and see with ice skating and swimming close by for most resorts, and more specific activities like sleigh rides and snowshoeing. As mentioned above, look for a Jugendhotel as your choice of accommodation and your school group won't have a chance to be bored!
